MIG Completes Detailed Medical Fit-Out for New 20-Bed Modular Ward at Peterborough City Hospital
MIG Medical completed a turnkey installation of a 20-bed modular ward for Peterborough City Hospital. Partnering with Wernick Buildings, the team enhanced the hospital’s infrastructure with a modern, fully equipped medical facility.
The fit-out included five 4-bed bays, a staff base, staff room, a dirty utility, clean utility, a cleaners room, an accessible/staff WC, a pantry, and a waiting area.
The installation features extensive medical systems such as bed head trunking, nurse call systems, anti-ligature bed curtains and blinds, hygienic wall cladding, bumper and crash rails, and a pneumatic tube system
MIG Medical carried out the project by working closely with the NHS trust to ensure seamless integration of all systems and minimal disruption to ongoing hospital operations.
Key mechanical systems included a comprehensive ventilation setup, efficient heating and cooling circuits, robust fire safety measures, and advanced lighting controls. The team often worked beyond regular hours to meet project deadlines and deliver a high-quality medical environment.
To enhance the ward’s heating and water supply, MIG installed two Daikin Altherma Air Source heat pumps to provide hot water to the domestic water outlets of the 20-bed ward. These heat pumps ensure efficient and reliable hot water delivery, crucial for patient comfort and facility operation.
Additionally, a Barkell Air Handling Unit was designed to provide tempered supply and extract air at a rate of 6 ACH, meeting HTM standards. This unit employs Daikin DX systems for both heating and cooling, with additional heater batteries to provide supplementary heating to the rooms.
A sophisticated BMS control system was integrated, allowing for monitoring and control from the hospital’s front-end BMS system. This ensures seamless operation and allows hospital staff to manage the environmental conditions of the ward effectively.
Overall, MIG’s success resulted from detailed planning, including site surveys and pre-construction studies to foresee and mitigate potential issues.
On-site activities were effectively coordinated, maintaining a smooth workflow and efficiency. Adherence to HTM guidelines and quality standards was strictly maintained throughout the project.
Through meticulous planning and coordination, MIG Mechanical delivered a state-of-the-art mechanical system that not only meets but exceeds the standards required for modern healthcare facilities.
Stephen Mitten also highlights, “Together, this project showcased our ability to deliver high-quality healthcare solutions efficiently. Our commitment to meticulous planning and execution ensured the state-of-the-art modular ward met all expectations.”
“Our team worked diligently to provide a turnkey solution tailored to the specific requirements of the healthcare environment, ensuring quality and safety throughout the project. The new ward increases the hospital’s ability to provide high-quality care to patients, setting a new standard for future healthcare projects.“
