MIG Delivers Comprehensive Fit-Out for George Eliot Hospital’s Two-Storey Expansion
In 2021, MIG Medical successfully provided and installed a cutting-edge modular surgical facility for the George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton. Building on this success, MIG partnered with Wernick Buildings to expand the existing Tom Moore unit.
Working alongside the NHS Trust, two additional storeys were added as part of the hospital’s five-year estate strategy to increase bed capacity and enhance patient care.
“This project was significant for MIG, demonstrating our ability to deliver high-quality, healthcare solutions in a challenging, live environment.” highlights Ben McDarmaid, Project Manager at MIG Medical.
Adding two more floors involved stringent cooperation among MIG, the NHS Trust, and Wernick Buildings. Our success in this project underscores the effectiveness of our collaborative approach.”
The expansion includes two wards, Milby and Coton, each designed to enhance patient care and comfort. Both wards feature 12 single bed and 12 four-bed rooms with ensuite washrooms, nurse call bases, staff rooms, and clean and dirty utility rooms.
Additionally, with Medi-Form’s Doc ‘M’ compliant disabled washrooms, hand wash basins, and sluice sinks, improved hygiene and accessibility are ensured throughout the wards.
Medi-Form is a prefabricated, modular wall panel system with integrated sanitaryware, featuring a 100% waterproof core made from anti-microbial PVC. Its seamless, timber-free design minimises the risk of bacteria buildup and cross-infection, ideal for healthcare settings prioritising hygiene and infection control.
Furthermore, MIG implemented essential medical systems and a comprehensive mechanical package to ensure optimal operation and safety including advanced lighting systems, electrical installations, nurse call systems, and fire alarm systems.
Additionally, the project featured extract ventilation in each bed bay, and a heating system with hot and cold water services to ensure seamless integration of all systems.
“Our commitment to quality and safety was evident throughout the project and the team worked diligently to ensure every detail was met, providing a turnkey solution tailored to the specific requirements of the healthcare environment,” said Carl Mitten, Director at MIG Medical.
The project’s completion has resulted in a modern, fully equipped medical facility that enhances patient care while meeting HTM and DDA compliance standards.
Through collaborative effort and expert project management, MIG Medical has delivered an advanced healthcare facility aligned with George Eliot Hospital’s strategic objectives under its five-year estate strategy.
This initiative aimed to increase bed capacity and expand patient care across critical areas including clinical staff facilities, pre-operative, anaesthetic, and post-operative recovery wards.
With both wards now operational, this achievement sets a new benchmark for future healthcare infrastructure projects and highlights MIG’s expertise in delivering compliant modular healthcare solutions.
