MIG Medical helps North Devon crown its new Coronation Suite
The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (RDUHT) is the largest employer in Devon, with more than 15,000 staff providing healthcare services to more than 615,000 people. One of its acute hospitals, the Barnstaple-based North Devon District Hospital, is one of 40 included in the Government’s New Hospital Programme (NHP) and was confirmed as a priority for investment in 2020.
Both the Trust and the hospital have a strong relationship with MIG Medical, with the company playing a key role in refurbishing its operating theatres and delivering a full modular fit-out for its new Jubilee Ward. The latter project also resulted in MIG being shortlisted for the 2022 Healthcare Estates IHEEM Healthcare Supplier of the Year Award.
It was no surprise, therefore, when RDUHT approached the company again to fit out North Devon Hospital’s new Coronation Suite discharge lounge, which features 12 beds alongside a staff base. The modular construction project took a total of 12 weeks to complete, including all partition walls, flooring, ceilings and mechanical and electric services including nurse call alarms and both HVAC and AC system.
MIG Medical coordinated carefully with a range of different trades to ensure the success of the project, with Wernick Buildings providing the outer shell before MIG’s carried out the full fit-out. Experienced engineers worked with project managers to ensure the building was delivered to an exacting standard and handed over in a timely manner.

Marsh Pullen, Capital Contracts Manager at RDUHT, said: “One of the benefits of having MIG on board is they have a real depth of experience to draw upon. Whatever our objective or challenge, the people at MIG have most likely both seen and overcome it in previous healthcare construction projects. It makes our life much easier.”
Chris Jepson, director at MIG Medical said: “This is the third major project we have completed for RDUHT on North Devon Hospital, and it’s a testament to our ability to work closely with both the client and other contractors that we were able to deliver another successful outcome for everyone involved.”
