MIG completes major refurbishment for Manchester Royal Infirmary
One of Manchester’s busiest hospitals, Manchester Royal Infirmary tasked MIG with the refurbishment and upgrade of its emergency paediatrics department.
The project included refurbishing the department’s 12 treatment rooms, its triage and resuscitation facilities, as well as upgrading its medical gas pipelines.

Over the course of five months, the hospital conducted a shutdown of a large part of its medical gas supply. In order for live areas to continue to treat patients, MIG ensured they were supplied with medical gas by backfeeding it through the pipeline.
This allowed the MIG engineers to install, commission and test the new medical gas pipelines, before restoring the main supply.

“This was a challenging project that required a lot of coordination to ensure that patients could continue to be treated while the refurbishment work was ongoing,” explains Ant Mitten, director at MIG.
“Over the course of around 20 weeks, we were able to successfully complete the upgrade while keeping disruption to an absolute minimum.”
