Delivering Advanced Mechanical Systems for Complex Modular Healthcare Expansion

Playing a critical role in the expansion of the existing Tom Moore unit at The George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton, MIG Mechanical worked alongside Wernick Buildings and the NHS Trust to deliver a two-storey extension as part of the hospital’s five-year estate strategy to increase bed capacity and improve patient care. Ben McDarmaid, Project Manager at MIG Mechanical highlights:

“This project was significant for MIG, demonstrating our ability to deliver high-quality mechanical solutions in a challenging, live environment.”

The expansion includes two new wards, Milby and Coton, designed to enhance patient care and comfort. Each ward features 12 single-bed rooms and 12 four-bed bays, all with ensuite washrooms. Additional spaces include nurse call bases, staff rooms, and clean and dirty utility rooms.

To support this development, MIG Mechanical delivered a comprehensive mechanical package to ensure the facility operates seamlessly. Key installations included extract ventilation systems in each bed bay, advanced heating systems, and integrated hot and cold water services. These systems were designed and installed to comply with HTM and DDA standards, ensuring safety, efficiency, and reliability throughout the facility.

The mechanical systems also incorporated advanced lighting installations, fire alarm systems, and sophisticated controls to enhance operational efficiency and patient comfort.

Director at MIG Mechanical, Chris Jepson, reflects on the team’s attention detail in delivering the project:

“Our team ensured every detail was met, providing a tailored, complete mechanical and plumbing package for the specific needs of the healthcare environment.”

This collaborative project involved close coordination with the NHS Trust and Wernick Buildings, underscoring the effectiveness of MIG’s approach to project delivery.

With both wards now operational, this project highlights our team’s expertise in delivering advanced, compliant mechanical solutions for complex healthcare environments, demonstrating MIG’s commitment to quality, safety, and innovation.
