Delivering a Full M&P Package for 20-Bed Modular Ward Expansion

As part of the Trust’s long-term capital projects strategy, MIG Mechanical worked alongside with Wernick Buildings to deliver a full mechanical fit-out within its latest 20-bed modular ward expansion. This collaboration resulted in a modern facility designed to meet increasing patient demands while adhering to the highest healthcare standards.

Comprising of five, 4-bed bays, a staff base, staff room, and a suite on ancillary rooms and adjoining washrooms, each space required advanced mechanical and hot and cold water systems to ensure efficiency, comfort, and reliability.

Over a 20-week period, a comprehensive ventilation system, including a Barkell Air Handling Unit, was installed to deliver tempered supply and extract air at a rate of 6 ACH in line with HTM standards.

The unit utilises Daikin DX systems for precise heating and cooling, with supplementary heater batteries providing additional warmth to key areas. To support the ward’s domestic hot water supply, MIG Mechanical installed two Daikin Altherma Air Source Heat Pumps, ensuring efficient and reliable delivery of hot water essential for daily operations and patient comfort.

A Building Management System (BMS) was also integrated, connecting seamlessly with the hospital’s front-end controls. This system allows hospital staff to monitor and manage environmental conditions across the ward, enhancing operational efficiency and maintaining a comfortable indoor environment.

Working beyond regular hours to meet strict project deadlines, the MIG Mechanical team applied meticulous planning and coordination to deliver a high-quality, fully functional mechanical system. The result is an advanced infrastructure that not only meets but exceeds the safety, performance, and efficiency standards required for modern healthcare facilities.

Chris Jepson, director at MIG Mechanical emphasised the importance of collaboration and precision, stating:

“Together, this project showcased our ability to deliver complex mechanical solutions efficiently. Our commitment to detailed planning and seamless execution ensured the new modular ward met all expectations and requirements.”

“Our team worked diligently to design and implement tailored solutions for this healthcare environment. By prioritising quality and safety throughout the project, we delivered a mechanical infrastructure that enhances the hospital’s ability to provide high-quality care, meeting both current and future demands.”

Through meticulous planning and coordination, MIG Mechanical delivered a state-of-the-art mechanical system that not only meets but exceeds the standards required for modern healthcare facilities.
